David Ash fights off a 3rd quarter slump to hit Mike Davis for a 25 yard game winning touchdown pass that propelled the Texas Longhorns (7-2 (4-2 Big 12)) over the Texas Tech Red Raiders 31-22.
The Longhorns came out firing on offense and defense. The defense forced a 3 and out on the first drive of the game. Texas Tech (6-3 (3-3 Big 12)) were not able to stop the Longhorns on their first drive with the Longhorns driving down the field 71 yards with a 6 yard pass to Jaxon Shipley to put the Longhorns up 7-0. The Longhorns would never give up the lead the entire game.
David Ash had a huge bounce back game in the first half going for 9 for 12 passing for 228 yards and 2 touchdowns. David Ash struggled in the second half only completing 2 passes out of his 7 attempts for only 42 yards, but the pass to Mike Davis for a touchdown in the 4th Quarter was the only pass he needed to make.
Mike Davis made two huge catches in the first half for 55 yards and 75 yards and a touchdown. The defense held the Red Raiders to only 13 points in the first half and 9 points in the second half. Texas Tech had 6 drives in the first half and the Longhorns only gave up 1 touchdown. Texas also had 6 drives and scored 3 touchdowns in the first half.
The defense continued it’s dominance in the second half giving up only 9 points in the second half. Carrington Byndum had his best game of the season with many pass breakups but his biggest play was a blocked 23 yard field goal with 5:15 left in the game that sealed the deal for the Longhorns.
The Longhorns play Iowa State next Saturday at DKR-Memorial Stadium with an 11am kickoff on the Longhorn Network.
