All the talk is over and the game is only a day away. It’s time to make our predictions on the big game Saturday Morning between the Texas Longhorns and the Iowa State Cyclones.
When Texas Has The Ball
After the performance against Kansas the previous week, Texas bounced back with a great performance against Texas Tech this past Saturday. Now this is another 11 AM kickoff like the Oklahoma and Kansas game was so we will see what this team can do at home for its 11 AM kickoff. I think that the Longhorns will come out inspired after the loss of Darrell K Royal on Wednesday. The Cyclones play great defense but if the Longhorns learned anything from the Kansas game you have to get your playmakers the ball early and often. They may not get it to Marquis Goodwin, DJ Monroe, or Daje Johnson but they will get the ball into Mike Davis and Jonathan Gray’s hands. That should be enough to move the ball downfield.
When Iowa State Has The Ball
Iowa State has not been a good offensive team. Ranking 93rd in total offense with only 360 yards per game on average. Now the Texas defense made Kansas look like a dominant offensive power in the first half of the game in Lawrence. Since that first half, the Texas Longhorns defense has turned on the light switch. It’s like they got their groove back just in time for the toughest part of their schedule. I think the matchup favors the Longhorns this weekend.
In 2010, Iowa State came into Austin and beat the Texas Longhorns for the first time in their school’s history. This also was the beginning of the end for a 5-7 season at Texas. Many players were on that team and want to set the tone that Texas is back. Texas did beat Iowa State in Ames last year in a decisive victory. Iowa State has a tendency to beat ranked teams but they do it at home. This will be a close game at first but Texas should win comfortably.
Texas wins 34-21
