Basketball Thoughts On The Texas Longhorns' Victory Over Fresno State

The Texas Longhorns Basketball team had it’s first game of the season today.  What did we learn from the Longhorns in the first game of the year?

They need Myck Kabongo

This is the biggest key to the rest of the season. Javon Felix has some skills, scoring 8 points in the first 11 minutes of the game. He only scored 2 more points the entire game. Listening to Rick Barnes’s postgame show, he talked about how that was Javon’s game which was to drive to the middle of the paint and take a shot. He was terrible at this tonight. Rick Barnes talked about how it just wasn’t falling for him tonight. That shouldn’t be his game. I am not saying don’t be confident in him, but 5-15 isn’t going to cut it. He needs to take less shots.

Sheldon McClellan won the game at the line

Sheldon was cold from the field going 3-10 which was a theme all night for the Longhorns. But he went 14-14 from the line that helped win the game. He did his job getting to the line and knocking down free baskets.

A win is a win.

Look we can debate all night about what went wrong and I will tell you now that everything went wrong. The Longhorns looked scared out there on their own home court. I think that is on Rick Barnes for not scheduling any exhibition games to get them in front of an actual crowd. A loss would of hurt this team in the long run but a win is a win. Move on to the next battle but if I was Rick Barnes, I would be calling Indianapolis every hour until I got a ruling on Myck Kabongo’s eligibility.
