Austin, Texas-David Ash throws for 364 yards and two touchdowns as Texas clobbers Iowa State 33-7. Texas improves to 8-2 on the season and 5-2 in the Big 12.
The first score of the game came on a 5 yard run by Jonathan Gray to put the Longhorns up 7-0. Then, on the Longhorns next play on offense, David Ash hits Mike Davis on a 61 yard play action pass to put the Longhorns up 14-0. Both drives were set up by defensive stop in Iowa State’s territory. The Cyclones started to drive down the field but an interception by Carrington Byndum at the Texas 7 yard line stopped that drive. The Longhorns again on a 3 yard play action pass from David Ash to Barrett Matthews to make it 20-0. Iowa State finally answered on a 14 yard screen pass to make it 20-7 heading into halftime.
The defense did give up 213 yards to Iowa State in the first half but the Cyclones got only 64 yards in the second half.
The second half was very slow with only 3 points scored by Texas in the 3rd quarter. The first play of the 4th quarter was an amazing catch by Jaxon Shipley that help to set up a 13 yard touchdown run by Jonathan Gray to make it 30-7 Longhorns. A Nick Jordan field goal put the final score at 33-7.
Mike Davis and Jaxon Shipley had breakout games at wide receiver. Mike Davis had 7 catches for 113 yards and a touchdown. Jaxon Shipley caught 8 balls for 137 yards. Jonathan Gray had 74 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The Longhorns have next Saturday off and will play TCU on Thanksgiving.
