On Monday, the University of Maryland announced its move to the Big 10. That will leave the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) with 13 full members and Notre Dame. But now, the door is open for a team to leave the ACC. That means Florida State might now be up for grabs. Many Big 12 supporters who love this conference and want it to succeed are telling Bob Bowlsby in Irving, Texas:
The Time Is Now! We Must Expand the Big 12.
The option that is available that will financially benefit the Big 12 the most is Florida State University. Florida State University is one of the big football powers in college football. They are a relatively new football power as they didn’t begin football until 1947, but when Bobby Bowden left West Virginia to come back to Florida State, where he was an assistant coach, he took a team that went 4-29 the previous 3 seasons to one that only had 1 losing season during his 34 years in Tallahassee. Florida State has 2 national championships (1993, 1999) and they were ranked in the AP Top 5 for 14 straight seasons from 1987 to 2000.
Florida State is also a very popular program in the state of Florida. They have a large following in Doak Campbell Stadium with 82,500 rabid fans rooting for the Garnet and Gold. But the perception in the state of Florida is that Florida State is in an inferior conference compared to their rivals Florida, who are in the SEC. The Seminoles have an opportunity to get a recruiting edge by joining the Big 12.
The Time Is Now!
So, bring Chief Osceola and Renegade and plant that spear in Big 12 country. Florida State already recruits in the State of Texas so it’s time and it is also time for the Big 12 to stop waiting and extend an invitation to Florida State.
