Continued:

The Texas Longhorns have expressed interested in Arizona Western Community College Quarterback Tanner McEvoy. A 6’5″ 215 pound Quarterback from New Jersey originally signed with South Carolina but after redshirting at South Carolina, transferred to Arizona Western Community College and had a decent year. In 7 games, he threw for 1568 yards with 21 touchdowns and only 3 interceptions. McEvoy is also a dual threat quarterback. He ran for almost 120 yards and 11 TDs in high school and this year at Arizona Western his rushing stats weren’t eye popping but he had 3 games where his rushing average was over 6 yards per rush. He didn’t receive an offer but Coach Bryan Harsin was in Arizona today to see Tanner work out. He is also hearing from Arkansas and Oregon among other schools.

My take:

I think after Mack Brown passed on Bo Wallace last year and Bo had a similar year statistically to David Ash, I think Mack doesn’t want to leave it up to chance that another Quarterback can help this team, you have to take a chance. In his high school tape above, you can see he has some skills running the football. David Ash is more elusive in the pocket but he can’t pick up a ton of yards running the ball. I think Mack Brown knows that he needs to win in 2013. He has two QBs that are inconsistent at times and two redshirt freshmen that might not be ready for the big stage. I think the Longhorns will offer Tanner McEvoy and might be in for a battle to get him.
