The Big 12 is entering bowl season with 9 teams that earned bowl bids. From the Bridgepoint Holiday Bowl to the Fiesta Bowl, the Big 12 can make it’s case as the best conference in football with a great bowl season performance. The Big 12 is considered to be one of the top football conference in the country, but the perception that many have of the Big 12 is that it is filled with few elite teams and many good teams. And if you look at the Big 12 standings, 5 of the 10 teams finished either 5-4 or 4-5 in conference. Fans of the Big 12 know that in the Big 12 there are no bye weeks but the rest of the country doesn’t know that. All the nation has seen is our BCS representative, Kansas State, lost by 28 points to 7-5 Baylor.
Here is the first part of the breakdown of the bowl games that the Big 12 will play in in the 2012-2013 College Football bowl season.
Bridgeport Education Holiday Bowl (December 27th, ESPN)
Baylor vs UCLA
Baylor is going into the Holiday Bowl on a 3 game winning streak and UCLA is going in with 2 straight losses to Stanford. UCLA will be looking to prove that it is one of the top teams going into the 2013 football season. Baylor wants to prove that the victory over Kansas State wasn’t a fluke.
Meinke Care Care Of Texas Bowl (December 28th; ESPN)
Minnesota vs Texas Tech
Texas Tech went from being a potential Big 12 title contender in October to just another 7-5 team in November. Minnesota is in it’s first bowl game under coach Jerry Kill who has in under scrutiny of his treatment of players in his program. This game will provide a boost for the team who wins into the 2013 season and take some heat of two coaches that want to end the season with a win.
New Era Pinstripe Bowl (December 29th; ESPN)
West Virginia Vs. Syracuse
West Virginia is trying to avenge one of its few Big East losses last year by playing in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl. Syracuse is riding high after beating Louisville and Missouri to end the season 7-5. West Virginia won its final two games of the season after losing 5 straight games after beating Texas in October. This will be a huge game and I expect both teams to come ready to play.
