The Texas Longhorns Volleyball team has won the 2012 NCAA National Championship. They beat the Oregon Ducks in 3 sets to capture their 3rd national title in program history.
The first set the Longhorns dominated the first set and jumped out to a 15-5 lead on it’s way to a 25-11 set victory. This was the worst set loss for the Oregon Ducks all season and was the worst set loss in National Championship game history.
The second set the Oregon Ducks came out and played with the Longhorns. The Oregon Ducks began to take control after the points were tied at 10 and stretched the lead to 12-10. After Jerritt Elliot called a timeout, the Oregon Ducks were still able to control the set and stretched the lead out to 17-13. After another Texas timeout, the Longhorns were able to tied it up at 17. Then Oregon called a timeout.
After the timeout, Oregon scored 3 straight points to go up 20-17. Then the Longhorns outscored the Ducks 9-4 to win the 2nd set 26-24.
The 3rd set the Longhorns started out hot again and got out to an 8-4 set lead. The Ducks were able to come back and get it to a 11-9 Texas lead. But the Longhorns kept pushing through with Bailey Webster just willing this Longhorns team to this victory. Haley Eckerman also had another outstanding performance.
The Championship Point was on another block by the Texas Longhorns, their 15th of the night. The Longhorns win their first title since 1988 and after 12 seasons and so many chances that never came to fruition, Jerritt Elliot finally wins a National Title.
