David Ash To Start In The Alamo Bowl

In his press conference Monday Morning, Mack Brown announced that David Ash will be the starter for the Alamo bowl.

Two things we learned from this announcement.

1. David Ash’s rib injury is going to be healed in time for the Alamo Bowl.

2. Texas has no better option to go with at quarterback.

Well at least without burning a redshirt. The Texas Longhorns were lucky enough to not have to burn a redshirt this year but make no mistake, the Quarterback position will be the focal point of this bowl game.

If David Ash comes out strong and has a great performance against a decent Oregon State defense. Then Longhorns fans will feel better about the Quarterback position. But that’s going to be a tough task.

Oregon State is ranked 47th in pass defense. To put that in perspective, TCU is ranked 53rd in pass defense and they shut down David Ash. And if we look into the future, BYU has the 13th best pass defense in the country in 2012. So in 2 of the potentially next 3 starts for David Ash, he is going to face very good pass defenses.

If the Texas Longhorns want to take that next step and be a BCS bowl contender, he will need to have great performances against BYU and Oregon State.
