On Tuesday night, Hutchinson Community College Blue Dragons Twitter feed announced that Linebacker DeVondre Campbell will sign his letter of intent with Texas.

DeVondre was committed to Tennessee but decided to open things up after the change in coaches at the University of Tennessee. Here is an excerpt from the media release by Hutchinson Community College. (Full media release here)

DeVondre Campbell – University of Texas

Once injuries started to deplete the Blue Dragon defense, DeVondre Campbell showed his versatility by playing both linebacker and defensive end.

A 6-foot-5, 224-pound linebacker from Fort Myers, Fla., Campbell is the first Blue Dragon to sign with the Texas Longhorns since full signing records were kept after the 1994 season.

Campbell was second on the team in tackles with 88 (22 unassisted). He had 8.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 quarterback sacks. Campbell had four quarterback hurries, three passes broken up, one interception and a forced fumble.

Campbell had a career-high 17 tackles against No. 6 Navarro College.

He was also a main go-to guy on special teams, converting five fake punts into first downs this season.

He is now the 14th known commitment in the 2013 recruiting class.
