5. Men’s Basketball beat North Carolina
As I stated early in the article, not much positive has happened this year for the Texas Longhorns basketball team, but earlier this month they got a huge win by beating North Carolina. Not only did they beat North Carolina, they dominated them. North Carolina never got the game within one possession the entire game and the Longhorns got a signature win that might boost their chances to getting into the NCAA tournament.
4. The Wishbone play against Iowa State
All Longhorn fans mourned the loss of Darrell K Royal earlier in the season and when Mack Brown announced that they would line up in the wishbone, all thought it would be a great tribute to a great man. But he never said they would do a running play out of the wishbone.
That play set the tone for a 33-7 victory which gave the Longhorns 8 regular season wins, the first time since 2009.
3. Women’s Volleyball wins the National Championship
Some might disagree with the placement of the Volleyball national championship here instead of the Men’s Golf national championship. Both were impressive but the Men’s Golf team was the best team in the country last year so they met expectations. The Women’s Volleyball team exceeded expectations after starting the season 7-3 and almost falling out of the AVCA Top 25. They went 15-1 in the Big 12 and found a way to win the National Championship.
2. Texas beating Oklahoma State in Stillwater
Beating Baylor was huge, but beating Oklahoma State was bigger. This was on the road after two straight games in Austin that the Longhorns lost. The game didn’t start off so well as Joseph Randle just ran over the Texas defense. But the Longhorns kept driving and played with the Cowboys. Then on the final drive, David Ash completes a 4th and 6 pass to DJ Grant and then a huge 32 yard reception by Mike Davis to set up the Longhorns with a 1st and Goal. Then Joe Bergeron punch it in for the go ahead score. This was a huge win to restore order back to the Big 12.
1. Alamo Bowl
Yes, this only happened 2 days ago but all the questions surrounding the Longhorns were could they beat a true top 25 team? They did that. Could David Ash bounce back from a poor performance and lead this team to victory? Yes he could. Everything that needed to be answered for the Longhorns to have a chance at winning big in 2013 was answered. Now it’s up to the Longhorns to work even harder than last year and find a way to win the Big 12 because anything less is unacceptable.
Have a safe and Happy New Years. Thank you for everyone who has made this website a success and we’ll see you in 2013 (tomorrow).
