Coach Stacy Searels (pictured above) and the Texas Longhorns got themselves a huge lineman for the 2013 recruiting class. Junior College offensive lineman Desmond Harrison committed to the Texas Longhorns today. A 6’8″ 320 pound Lineman, he will add size and strength to a Texas offensive line that got pushed around for much of the season. He is rated as a 4 star on 247 Sports and his highlight tape is below.
Texas Longhorns fans hate to be reminded that the haven’t had an offensive lineman drafted since the 2008 NFL draft. That trend is going to continue for another draft so it will be 5 straight drafts where an offensive lineman from Texas hasn’t been drafted. This is a disturbing trend and one that has lead to the downfall of the Texas program. With this commitment, the Longhorns add a recruit that can come in and immediately contribute in Austin. He is quick for a 300 lbs lineman and is very good at run blocking. I see him either at left or right tackle and this might put pressure on Donald Hawkins and Trey Hopkins to get bigger and stronger if they want to keep their starting position.
