2014 Recruiting Update: Longhorns Land #7

The Texas Longhorns have their 7th commitment of the 2014 class. Houston (Sharpton High School) Athlete Roderick Bernard has gotten an offer from Texas and committed to the Longhorns.  Roderick Bernard is a new name on the recruiting front as he hasn’t been ranked by any recruiting service but he has an impressive highlight tape.

My Take

Well things change quite quickly in the world of recruiting and athletes that you have never heard of are able to come out of nowhere and are able to quickly ascend up the recruiting rankings. That seems to be the story with this recruit. Watching his film, it looks like he is a speedy wide receiver with 4.5-4.7 speed in the forty yard dash. He looks like a good slot receiver for screen passes and quick slants. His cornerback skills are raw, so I think he is destined for the offensive side of the ball.

I give credit to the Longhorns coaching staff for going out and finding recruits that aren’t as well known as some other recruits. This shows the ability of the staff to recruit on their own, without any recruiting service help. I like what I see from this recruit and I believe once other people see it, they’ll like what they see as well.
