Reports: Dontre Wilson To Visit Texas

According to multiple reports, Desoto High School Running Back Dontre Wilson has cancelled his Oklahoma State visit this weekend and will visit the University of Texas. Dontre Wilson is committed to the Oregon Ducks but has visited Ohio State recently.

Dontre Wilson has rarely shown any love for the Texas Longhorns. Dontre Wilson said in an interview with Rivals.com:

“I just didn’t want to put myself in that predicament and go there and not get any playing time,” he said of Texas.

Major Applewhite is changing the offensive philosophy of the Texas Longhorns and he is not afraid to go after the players he wants. Applewhite wants to prove to playmakers like Wilson that they will be used in his offense. It seems apparent that Dontre Wilson likes what he hears from Texas as Signing Day approaches.

My Take:

Patience is a virtue, one that many people don’t have. Patience and perseverance have paid off here to get Dontre Wilson on campus again. This one is still an uphill battle that if I was a betting man I would say he sticks with his Oregon commitment. The ability of Major Applewhite to get Dontre Wilson to listen to Texas and to get him to visit Austin on the final recruiting weekend of the 2013 recruiting class is astounding. If Texas is able to convince Dontre that staying at home in Texas is what’s best for his collegiate future, this will send a message to the people in College Station that the Longhorns can still recruit and get top Texas recruits.

Dontre Wilson would be a GREAT addition to the already AWESOME Recruiting Class. Texas will have the #1 Offensive Lineman Recruiting Class that already have committed and to play for the University of Texas. Also competing against the very best running backs in the country will only make him better player and save him from wear and tear that running backs usually suffer from by the time they are in their fifth year as a Pro, it is important to have a healthy Career if he wants to succeed in the next level. When a player shows he is not afraid to compete against the very best at his position it only shows his true character of a Champion and team player. One thing for sure he will have huge holes to run through for many years and also a GREAT Running backs Coach to perfect his skills and talents so he can become a high draft pick in the NFL Draft!!!
