Hinojosa comes through with a base hit, up the middle, with runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out bringing in the game winning run in the 9th inning as the Texas Longhorns baseball team beat the Nebraska Cornhuskers 4-3 at UFCU Disch-Falk Field in Austin, Texas. With the win, Texas improves to 5-1 on the season and wins the series against the Cornhuskers.
Dillion Peters got the start today for the Texas Longhorns and threw for 6 innings giving up only 1 earned run. Freshman Chad Hollingsworth got the win for the Texas Longhorns. C.J. Hinojosa went 2-for-5 with the game winning RBI. Mark Payton had 2 RBIs but did not get a hit. One RBI was from a sacrifice bunt and the other was from a base on balls. Erich Weiss went 2-for-3 with a double and 2 walks.
Nebraska had a tough time with their pitching the entire game. Starter Christian DeLeon went 6 innings as well, but gave up 2 earned runs and faced 25 batters. Reliever Aaron Bummer was a bummer on the mound with the only 2 batters he faced all game, he walked them. Dylan Vogt got the first batter Taylor Snell out on a ground ball in the 9th inning. Then Erich Weiss hit a double with one out. Then Nebraska intentionally walked Mark Payton to set up the potential double play. C.J Hinojosa hit the ball up the middle and Erich Weiss used his speed to score the game winning run.
The Longhorns will play the Cornhuskers tomorrow at noon at UFCU Disch-Falk Field for the series finale.
