The Texas Longhorns football team will play two Thursday night games in 2013. Here is the full release from the Big 12:
AUSTIN, Texas — The Big 12 Conference announced its 2013 Thursday night game schedule today, as approved by the league’s Directors of Athletics.
The Texas Longhorns will play two Thursday night games during the 2013 season. Texas will travel to Ames, Iowa, to face Iowa State on Thursday, Oct. 3.
The Longhorns will also reprise their annual Thanksgiving night game when they face Texas Tech on Thursday, Nov. 28. Game times and networks broadcasting the games will be announced at a later date.
The other two Big 12 Conference Thursday night games will pit TCU facing Texas Tech in Lubbock on Sept. 12, and Oklahoma visiting Baylor on Nov. 7.
The Texas Tech game was expected to be played on Thanksgiving. The Longhorns have always played on Thanksgiving. The surprise is the game against Iowa State on October 3rd. To be fair, Texas fans rarely travel well to schools north of Oklahoma. A good showing is always at away games but from my observation, Texas fans don’t fill up the stadium at Kansas the way they do at Texas Tech. So this works out well for Iowa State who can get a primetime game for their fans.
The Iowa State game looks to be a classic trap game. A well coached team the week before Oklahoma at their place. That will be an interesting game.
