Well, that was inevitable…

While expected (it sounds now as if Kabongo decided before ever stepping foot on campus that he’d be declaring after his sophomore year), Kabongo’s departure is another punch to the nether regions to both the Longhorn basketball program and its fans. The youngest team in the country last year, Texas loses yet another upperclassman-to-be, and if Julien Lewis follows Sheldon McClellan and Jaylen Bond out the door, all that will be left of the 2011 recruiting class — a class that was believed to be a building-block group of contributors — will be junior Jonathan Holmes. Starting nearly from scratch once again, next season now appears to have all the makings of an unfortunate, Groundhog Day rerun of last year.

In the immortal words of Bart Scott: “Can’t wait.”
