Late Wednesday night, Texas Athletics release a statement announcing the transfer of Cayleb Jones. Here is a portion of that statement:

AUSTIN, Texas – Longhorn wide receiver Cayleb Jones has elected to transfer, his parents, Robert and Maneesha Jones, confirmed on Wednesday. The Austin, Texas (Austin HS) native has been given an unconditional release from his scholarship by UT and will depart the program after playing as a true freshman last season.

“We want to thank coach Brown, coach Wyatt and all of the staff for everything they’ve done for Cayleb and our family,” Robert Jones said. “We’ve really enjoyed being a part of the Texas program, but we’ve talked about the situation as a family, and we think it’s best for Cayleb to get a fresh start and transfer to another school. We know he will miss his teammates and playing for the Longhorns, but we believe this move is in his best interest.”

My Take:

I am disappointed that Cayleb Jones will not be a part of this Texas Longhorns offense but the writing was on the wall after his legal troubles came to the surface. He needs a fresh start. He is from Austin and he needs to get out and explore the rest of the world. Good luck to Cayleb on his future endeavors.
