Texas Expected to Introduce Charlie Strong Sunday

After 24 hours of confusion and misinformation, it appears the dust has finally settled. Multiple sources confirm that Louisville’s Charlie Strong will indeed be the next head coach at the University of Texas.

What initially held up confirmation was Strong’s desire to speak with Louisville AD Tom Jurich who was marooned in Colorado by the weather. Late in the evening, Jurich was able to board a flight back to Louisville, meeting with Strong shortly thereafter. That cleared the way for Strong to accept Texas’ offer, and an announcement is now expected to take place sometime on Sunday.

Reports also suggested that Strong and Texas needed to iron out a few final issues before a deal could be consummated. It’s been speculated that those issues centered around his buyout clause and the status of Strong’s defensive line coach Clint Hurtt. While it’s currently unknown what resolutions were reached, it does appear that the two parties have settled those matters and they will not hold up the deal any longer.
