Texas Longhorns coaching: Joe Wickline named offensive coordinator

The Texas Longhorns stayed in-house for its offensive coordinator, naming offensive line coach Joe Wickline to the position.

Wickline will pull double duty and continue to coach the offensive line. The move makes sense from a financial standpoint since Wickline has a buyout clause in his Oklahoma State contract if he makes a lateral move to another school. He previously served as the OL coach for the Cowboys.

Texas also announced quarterbacks coach Shawn Watson will serve as assistant head coach for the offense. There has been speculation amongst Longhorn fans that Wickline and Watson would share the offensive coordinator duties, with Watson responsible for play calling. Head coach Charlie Strong put that mystery to rest by saying Wickline will call the plays.
