It was a battle, but boy did the Texas Longhorns earn a much needed win against the Baylor Bears tonight.
As a writer for the Longhorns, it’s easy, because someone different has a breakout game each night, and tonight, it was Cameron Ridley.
Ridley has been huge for Texas in the paint all year. He has been a lockdown, central piece on defense and has added much needed scoring and rebounding for this year’s Longhorns team.
Tonight though, Ridley had possibly his career game at Texas.
After coming out in the first half with 13 points, the Longhorns led by Cameron Ridley led 42-27.
At that point, it seemed as if the Longhorns were going to run away with it. But that was until Baylor came out hot, hitting 3 threes in the first 6 minutes in the second half cutting the score to 54-48.
Texas though, with the help of senior leader Javan Felix, was able to combat Baylor’s scoring with a few threes of their own. And with Jonathan Holmes hitting three straight baskets for Texas, the Longhorns were able to extend their lead coming down the stretch.
With about three minutes left, Texas held their lead until Baylor’s Cory Jefferson drained a few buckets in a row to cut Texas’s lead to only one.
But after that, Baylor went ice cold and Texas was able to take the game winning 74-69.
As I stated, Cameron Ridley had possibly his best game at Texas. Although he only had 7 points in the second half, Ridley did finish with 20 total points and 10 rebounds, to give him another double double on the year.
With this win, the 24th ranked Texas Longhorns moved to 21-7 on the year, and the Longhorns will face Oklahoma on Saturday in a rematch of Texas’s 88-85 lost on January 4th.
This game will be shown on ESPN3, so make sure to tune in on Saturday at 4:00 P.M. ET.
