The Texas Longhorns basketball team heads into the Big 12 tournament on a downward spiral. The Longhorns lost a sixth straight Big 12 road game, falling to Texas Tech 59-53.
The loss sets up the Longhorns as the fourth seed for the tournament. Texas (22-9, 11-7 Big 12) will face West Virginia in the first round.
Texas struggled from the field, shooting 35 percent for the game. The Longhorns made 4 of 18 3-pointers as the team continues to struggle with its perimeter shooting. Javan Felix finished 1-7 of 3-point shots. The Longhorns made just 9 of 17 free throws.
Reserve guard Martez Walker led Texas with 13 points. Cameron Ridley was the only other player in double figures with 12 points. Jonathan Holmes had seven points in 21 minutes of action. Holmes returned to action after missing the TCU game.
Despite the poor shooting, Texas led 23-21 at halftime. The Longhorns extended the lead to 44-37 with 9:23 left in the game before Texas Tech forward Jaye Crockett spurred an 18-4 Tech run to ice the game. Crockett had 22 points and 10 rebounds for Texas Tech (14-17, 6-12 Big 12).
