Injuries top the headlines today in Longhorn Nation. Get well soon, David Ash and Dominic Espinosa.
This one came out of left field as no one saw any indications that Ash was suffering from another concussion.
Texas Longhorns quarterback David Ash, who missed most of last season with concussion symptoms, was injured again and will miss this week’s game against BYU.
Another concussion was always on the back of everyone’s mind when it came to Ash. Those thoughts just became reality.
The worst fears of Texas Longhorns fans this season played out again early on Monday, as head coach Charlie Strong announced that starting quarterback David Ash was suffering from concussion symptoms after the win against the North Texas Mean Green.
Injuries are part of the game, but do we really have to lose our quarterback AND center?
With 40 starts under his belt, senior snapper Dominic Espinosa left the game in the second half Saturday night with what appeared to be a severe ankle injury. Reports this afternoon confirm he broke his right ankle.
Injuries or no injuries, Charlie Strong is extending the suspensions for two players beyond just one game.
Senior offensive tackle Desmond Harrison, who had been playing on the right side during the last part of fall camp, has worked his way back into the good graces of his head coach and will play against the Cougars on Saturday evening. Senior safety Josh Turner and junior wide receiver Daje Johnson will miss at least one more game for their own violations of team rules.
How about some good news?
For the last several months, head coach Charlie Strong has promised Longhorn faithful that he would bring toughness back to Texas football. The Longhorns delivered with a dominant defensive performance that produced four interceptions in a 38-7 victory over North Texas on Saturday night.
And more good news. Congratulations to Fozzy.
Former Texas running back Fozzy Whittaker made the Carolina Panthers 53-man roster this past weekend after an impressive training camp and preseason showing.
