It’s no secret that there’s some uncertainty surrounding Charlie Strong and Texas football. At 2-3 and looking worse defensively in year three under Strong than at any point in school history, the heat is rising on this coaching staff. But there’s still seven games to play, which means there’s time for Strong to save his job.

There are some out there, of course, who think that Strong is gone no matter what. The lack of development of this roster, they say, is a clear indictment of the head coach. The results simply aren’t there for Strong to stick around for a fourth season on the Forty Acres.

However, as long as he’s still around, there’s a chance he saves his job. Strong clearly has the support of his team and some major Texas alumni and boosters have come out in support of him this week. There is a very rare chance that the coach is fired midseason so he’s got the rest of the 2016 campaign to prove why he needs to stick around for 2017.

That doesn’t mean it will be easy. The schedule is very tough and Texas has some major issues that have contributed to their current three-game losing streak and the preposterous amount of points allowed by this defense. The talent appears to be there, though, to make it work. Strong just needs to figure out how to make it happen.

So as a starting point, here are five things Charlie Strong has to do to save his job at Texas.
