There’s a ton of opportunity for Texas football to run away with the Big 12 during the regular season with the schedule left on tap.

The remaining slate of games for Texas football presents quite the mixed bag of challenges to round out the 2018 regular season. However, the signature opponents anticipated from the beginning of the year are all out of the way now. That would include teams like the Oklahoma Sooners, TCU Horned Frogs, Kansas State Wildcats, and USC Trojans.

But teams like TCU and Kansas State have vastly disappointed this season, making way for the Longhorns to climb to the top of the Big 12 standings coming out of the first bye week. Texas football can see some things change in the coming weeks and have some of these remaining five teams pose a huge hurdle.

The road to the Big 12 Championship Game for Texas football can feel out where this team is at in terms of mindset coming out of the bye week against the Oklahoma State Cowboys on Oct. 27. A few key injuries and an uninspiring finish heading into the bye week with a 23-17 home victory over the Baylor Bears created a certain level of mystery clouding the Oklahoma State matchup.

Texas should be confident about how this team played through the six games following the season opening loss to the Maryland Terrapins. It landed them with a No. 7 ranking nationally and a direct path to the College Football Playoff. Navigating through the rest of the 2018 schedule is just about avoiding looking forward beyond any game and staying away from trap games.

Here’s a look at the ranking of the five opponents left on tap for the Texas Longhorns for the 2018 regular season.
