This isn’t a strong class of defensive transfer prospects this summer, but Texas football does have a few cornerbacks worth looking into.

Through the next two months of the 2019 college football off-season, the best names remaining in the NCAA Transfer Portal will be scooped up if they haven’t already.  Most of the better defensive transfers available in the portal are still there uncommitted.

Texas football turned to the transfer portal once already to find an answer for a position of need. With spring ball in the books and just the long lapse of the summer until the 2019 regular season begins, there should be a lot of focus and energy that the Texas coaching staff can put into hitting the transfer market to explore potential solutions to positional needs.

Among all the positional needs that the Longhorns have heading into summer workouts, there are a handful that stick out. Two of the first positional needs for the Texas football program that come to mind include linebacker and offensive line. Head Texas football coach Tom Herman was able to remedy the running back depth issue, at least for the moment, by moving the former five-star wide receiver signee Jordan Whittington over the play in the backfield.

However, a few other notable positional needs that Texas still has includes cornerback and defensive tackle. Depending on how the health of the defensive line shakes out heading into fall camp, the defensive tackle spot could work itself out. There is surely talent and experience that sits at the position between Gerald Wilbon and Keondre Coburn. Cornerback is a different story, though.

Here’s a look at the four best remaining cornerback transfer candidates that the Texas Longhorns football program should explore in the NCAA Transfer Portal right now.
