Texas Football lands huge RB prospect in 2018 Recruiting Class

Tom Herman spoke, Keaontay Ingram listened, and the Texas Football Recruiting machine landed a huge RB prospect in the 2018 class.

Keaontay Ingram, who is the No. 1 ranked RB in the state of Texas, announced Tuesday that he is heading to Austin next season.

Ingram is an elite athlete out of Carthage, Texas, listed at 6’1″ and 187 pounds. Ingram brings a combination of speed and breakaway ability that makes him a Top 250 national recruit.

That obviously excited head coach Tom Herman, who indirectly acknowledged Ingram’s verbal commitment on Tuesday since coaches cannot comment on recruits until they officially sign.

As part of the announcement, Ingram tweeted a highlight video from his ongoing high school career. This obviously fired up new Texas RB coach Stan Drayton since Ingram is the first RB signed to the 2018 Texas Football Recruiting class.

Texas Football Recruiting: Current Top 10 Class

The first full-year recruiting class for Tom Herman is now ranked #10 in the 247Sports rankings.

Among teams in the Top 10, Texas has the fewest current recruits with nine, leaving plenty of room to move up the rankings as more players verbally commit to Texas Football.

The current position breakdown for the 2018 class includes:

  • QBs: Casey Thompson and Cameron Rising
  • RB: Keaontay Ingram
  • WR: Justin Watkins
  • OL: Reese Moore
  • DE: Ron Tatum
  • OLB: Byron Hobbs
  • Safety: Caden Sterns
  • K: Cameron Dicker

That’s a balanced offensive and defensive recruiting class at this point. But, the Horns still need to add defenders at cornerback, linebacker, and obviously defensive line. Texas lost two d-linemen on the same day earlier this month, creating a depth issue for the 2017 Texas Football roster.

Looking ahead to 2018, it will be interesting to track the next wave of recruits. Will Tom Herman crack the Top 5 in his first Texas Football Recruiting cycle?
