The Texas Football Recruiting machine reeled in another elite prospect from the Houston area this week.
The latest commit for the 2018 Texas Football Recruiting class is Tight End Malcolm Epps.
It’s no surprise that Malcolm Epps is from the Houston area because Longhorns head coach Tom Herman has been on a roll recruiting high school players from Houston.
Just in the last few weeks, Tom Herman has landed five big-time recruits from Houston:
There’s enough talent in that list to build an entire recruiting class around. Combine those five players with the rest of an all-star cast of high school recruits and Texas Football is winning the recruiting battle.
Now, the Longhorns have reached the No. 2 ranking in the country with their 2018 recruiting class, according to 247Sports.com. The only team ahead of Texas Football is Ohio State. It’s a very tight Top 4:
- No. 1: Ohio State (288.00 composite score)
- No. 2: Texas (276.05 score)
- No. 3: Miami (274.69 score)
- No. 4: Penn State (273.73 score)
Texas leapfrogged Miami and PSU to reach No. 2 because of what Malcolm Epps brings to the Longhorns.
Malcolm Epps Player Break Down
Malcolm Epps already has the size to be a very good college tight end. Now, the star athlete from Dekaney High School needs to add bulk.
Epps is listed at 6’5″ and 218 pounds. Once he reaches about 240 pounds, he will be in a position to be an important member of the Texas Football team in 2018 and beyond.
- #7 Nationally Ranked TE
- #22 player in the state of Texas
- #180 Nationally Ranked player
What’s also interesting about Epps committing to the Longhorns is Tom Herman landed verbal commitments from two tight ends in one week.
Earlier in the week, Dominick Wood-Anderson committed to the Longhorns as a JUCO transfer from Arizona.
At the end of the week, Malcolm Epps provided an in-state contribution to Tom Herman’s plan to fill the tight end depth chart.
The Longhorns will need depth at that position next year once incumbent starter Andrew Beck finishes his college career.
This is important because Tom Herman and OC Tim Beck need high-quality, versatile TEs to run their offense. Malcolm Epps certainly fits the bill. And, his recruitment pushed the Longhorns closer to the top spot in the 2018 college football recruiting rankings.
