Left Cornerback

1. Kris Boyd

An emerging star for the Texas secondary could be making his way up in rising senior cornerback Kris Boyd. However, there are some obvious hurdles to Boyd reaching a real standout level even in the latter end of his college career. Texas fans don’t carry the most favorable opinion of Boyd.

Another issue for Boyd over the years is how prone he’s been to getting beat deep. A ton of Big 12 offenses will take you over the top, so Boyd needs to improve in that regard this year. Despite teams like the Oklahoma Sooners and Oklahoma State Cowboys losing big time quarterbacks, that type of play calling will not stop in this conference.

Yet, we also shouldn’t overlook the effectiveness that Boyd provides in pass coverage on most plays. He’s very solid in locking down some of the better receivers he faces. He will be tasked with shutting down some of the best receivers that Texas faces this season.

2. Anthony Cook

Once again, we’re going with the freshman that provides the most talent straight off the sideline this year. Rising sophomore cornerback Eric Cuffee does provide some additional depth here, and could have some qualms with his placing on the depth chart.

Yet, incoming four-star cornerback recruit Anthony Cook enrolled early and definitely earned his way to some bit of early playing time this fall. In a Todd Orlando defense, Cook should be able to make some type of impact in the eyes of the coaching staff this year too.
