Z-Wide Receiver

1. John Burt

The most excitement of the three wide receiver spots should lie with z. It’s left between a senior in John Burt and junior in Devin Duvernay to decide who could be the biggest deep threat for the Horns in 2018. Burt has more speed, but Duvernay had the most recent success.

The issues with both receivers is the lack of upward trending production with this offense. Each has insane potential with the Horns, but the passing game does not allow them to unleash their ability. As long as Herman allows either Ehlinger or Buechele to start taking the top off opposing defenses, this could also be the breakout receiver spot in 2018.

If Burt can find that groove he had during his freshman campaign, Texas will be good to go in the deep passing game. That is a similar claim to Duvernay. Yet, Burt is a proven Big 12 Track Champion that should be ready to go this fall.

2. Devin Duvernay

This is where a multitude of incoming freshmen and a rising sophomore like Davion Curtis could make an impact. Both Burt and Duvernay are going to get their chance this season, but the coaching staff needs to turn to other options if nothing works out between those two early on.

The former Baylor Bears transfer in Duvernay is among the fastest players on the roster altogether. And, he’ll look to get over that 300-yard receiving mark at least this year. His deep ball ability in the passing game will be the main factor to his overall stat line.
