Possibly the best way for the Horns to replace the Ray Guy Award winner from the 2017 season, for the best punter in the nation, in Michael Dickson is to add his talented cousin to the mix. Special teams saved the Horns on a few occasions last season as Texas might’ve had the most valuable kicker or punter in the nation in 2017.

However, Dickson was selected in the later rounds of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks following the end of the 2017 college football season. It’s a huge departure for the Horns, but the program brought in three-star Australian punter Ryan Bujcevski to be the next leg up in the punting game.

Hopefully, the Texas offense does enough to where there won’t be such a heavy emphasis on the punting game this fall. The stagnation of the Texas offense, at times, last season caused Dickson to play a bigger role that he should’ve given the ideal situation on both sides of the ball. By all considerations, the Texas offense should be much more productive in 2018.

Either way, Bujcevski will have some big shoes to fill in the wake of Dickson’s departure. Since Bujcevski was rated as the second best punter prospect for the 2018 recruiting cycle, the Horns did well to land him. He’ll be counted out from the get go to keep the Texas special teams afloat in the early portion of the regular season as the offense gets comfortable.
