The highest rated non-safety for the Horns was also a defensive back for the 2018 Texas football recruiting class. Four-star Heights High School cornerback Jalen Green was rated as a top 50 prospect in the nation for the 2018 cycle and he was a top rated defensive back out of the state too.

Green was rated as the sixth best cornerback in the nation and the fourth best prospect out of the state of Texas. To truly show the in-state recruiting dominance for Texas for the 2018 cycle, the Horns signed six of the top seven high school prospects out of the Lone Star State. Green might be the most impactful outside of the two five-star safeties too.

Outside of the pair of standout senior cornerbacks Kris Boyd and Davante Davis, the Horns are very young at the position. Redshirt freshman Kobe Boyce is the most likely corner to get some playing time behind the pair of seniors, and that is not an incoming freshman. Boyce still does not have any playing experience in actual game action to date.

Fellow four-star 2018 signee cornerback Anthony Cook will also be important to the Texas secondary this fall. The last of the four-star cornerback 2018 signees for the Horns, D’shawn Jamison, is the most likely of the group to get a redshirt. Yet, Green is physically ready and has enough maturity in his game from what highlights we’ve seen to make his name known in his freshman season.
