5. 2019 recruiting class is going to be special

Starting off by landing a big commitment this month for the 2019 Texas basketball recruiting class was a fantastic sight. Five-star hometown center Will Baker gave his pledge to the Horns on Nov. 8 to give this class its first elite prospect. Texas now has another player that will eventually be able to fill in for any position between the two and the five on the floor.

Texas has a nice group of commitments lined up alongside Baker, but none as big as the one that came on Nov. 8. Baker fits nicely with the system that Texas likes to run and will help space the floor for some of the better shooters. He’s a good spot up shooter for his size and can quickly drive to the rim for his size.

Fans will always talk about players that can be immediate difference makers in the world of college hoops. That’s what the Horns get out of Baker who can be a solid rim defender and has a very versatile skill set on offense. Baker can be a good defender for the Horns and bring an elite offensive skill to the table for Smart and the Horns.

Something else landing Baker does for the 2019 Texas basketball recruiting class is attract other top flight talent. Texas already have two solid four-star commits to give some depth in the front court and at shooting guard. Baker is the only top-50 2019 high school prospect in the nation for the Horns right now and he could attract another prospect at or just below his caliber to this group when it’s all said and done.
