2019 NFL Draft: Ranking the top five prospects from the Longhorns
The 2019 NFL Draft projections vary greatly from pundit to pundit for junior wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey. At 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, Humphrey has the size and strength to fight off NFL cornerbacks. The speed tends to be the main concern. An encouraging sign for his ability to separate from opposing defensive backs is the fact that he leads Texas in yards per reception among all receivers that have more than one catch in 2018.
No other Horns player had a breakout season like Humphrey. He took minor expectations by the horns and ran with them (no pun intended). Humphrey has more than 1,000 receiving yards and 10 total touchdowns this year. He’s averaging nearly 15.0 yards per catch, with is nearly a three yard improvement from his 2017 mark.
The versatility that Humphrey brings to the table is highlighted by his ability to make an impact with his hands, legs, and arm. He has eight receiving, one passing, and one rushing touchdown this year. Humphrey also more than double his previous career highs in receiving yards and touchdowns. Receptions should more than double from his previous career high too this year.
Walter Football projects Humphrey outside the top 10 wide receivers for the 2019 NFL Draft. Some have Humphrey as a top 10 wide receiver in this class, such as Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller. Some pundits even go as far as to say that Humphrey should return to the Forty Acres one more season. But if he capitalizes on this breakout campaign, he could prove the pundits wrong and solidify his status as a first or second round prospect.
