1. Shaka Smart continues the Texas win streak over UNC

Smart and Texas basketball currently hold an impressive three-game winning streak over the Tar Heels. Texas won seven of the last eight meetings in this series too. Altogether, Texas holds a 7-3 edge over UNC in this series all-time. UNC took the first two meetings, dating back to 1992, but just one since.

UNC is one of the most storied programs in college basketball history. The fact that the Horns hold such a significant edge over a blue blood program shows how much this team can rise when it matters most. Each win for Texas in this series also came over a top-25 ranked UNC team at the time.

Smart even has one win over the Tar Heels, despite posting some rather mediocre records in his four seasons on the Forty Acres. He took the last meeting between the Horns and Tar Heels in his first season at the helm by the final score of 84-82. That win for Smart came back on Dec. 12, 2015, to upend a top three ranked UNC squad.

The last win for the Tar Heels in this series came back in Dec. 2010, when No. 5 UNC beat Texas 82-63. That 19-point UNC victory came by the second largest margin of any game in this series. Texas hopes for a different fortune than it saw back in the 2010-11 season against UNC. The Horns should be an underdog in this game, but recent history falls in its favor.
