Who else could Texas land?

The prospects seemed promising for the 2019 Texas basketball recruiting class at first. Smart and the Horns were hot on the trail of elite high school prospects like five-star center James Wiseman and five-star guard Cassius Stanley. Wiseman gave his pledge to his hometown school in the Memphis Tigers, which should give that program an enormous boost.

A few other key targets that Texas lost out on includes four-star power forward C.J. Walker who committed to the Oregon Ducks and four-star point guard De’Vion Harmon who pledged to the Oklahoma Sooners. Texas basketball recruiting could use some depth in numbers to add to the rotation next year, from the 2019 class.

The key to really boosting this 2019 class seems to be the No. 5 ranked high school prospect in the nation in McDaniels. Per 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions, McDaniels has a split decision looming between Texas and San Diego State. McDaniels also recently had a visit to the Forty Acres, back on Nov. 2. He also visited San Diego State on Oct. 12.

Three-star combo guard Damion Baugh and three-star small forward Jared Garcia are two underrated prospects that Texas could gain some ground with in the coming months. Baugh is leaning toward Memphis and Garcia only holds four offers. Watch out for the Katy, TX, native Garcia to spark more interest with the Horns before National Signing Day 2019.
