2019 NFL Draft: 5 better QB options over Kyler Murray
In all likelihood, if Kyler Murray isn’t the first quarterback taken off the board in the 2019 NFL Draft, it will be the former Ohio State Buckeyes Heisman finalist Dwayne Haskins. In any other season beside 2018, Haskins might have won the Heisman. He just ran into the unfortunate situation of Tua and Kyler having career years all in the same regular season.
Haskins is by no means a once in a generation type prospect. This isn’t the type of quarterback that is comparable to someone like Andrew Luck for the Indianapolis Colts or Newton. Sometimes there is that quarterback that fans just know is going to pan out in the NFL barring catastrophe or injury.
Even if Murray does reach his ceiling in the NFL, there’s a good chance that Haskins will be better. Haskins has a higher ceiling than Murray as is. He might not be as fast, but he’s larger, stronger, and has a more potent arm. What Haskins did at Ohio State this past season was also likely more impressive than Kyler Murray at OU.
Some of the numbers that Haskins posted in the final year under Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer went way too far under the radar. He registered 50 passing touchdowns to just eight interceptions. If not for one off game against the Purdue Boilermakers, Haskins might have won the Heisman and led the Buckeyes to an appearance in the College Football Playoff.
