The opportunity to pry more talent out of Carthage High School is there for Texas football recruiting to boost the 2020 class again with three-star wide receiver Kelvontay Dixon. Texas was able to bring in one of its biggest pieces from the 2018 signing class thus far from Carthage, with running back Keaontay Ingram.

Wide receiver is off to a somewhat slow start after the Horns arguably hauled in the nation’s best group at the position in the 2018 class. Texas was able to get some elite wide receivers in the 2018 recruiting class like four-star Arizona native Jake Smith, five-star standout athlete Bru McCoy, and five-star state champion Jordan Whittington.

However, Dixon would be more similar to the haul at wideout that the Horns got with a signee like three-star 2018 in-state product Kennedy Lewis. The potential for Dixon is brimming and he could eventually make his way up to the status of a four-star prospect. Dixon’s issue is size and strength, since he doesn’t even reach 6-foot and 180 pounds.

Since Dixon is just entering his senior season with Carthage High School, he could add some size and quickly improve his recruiting ranking, which sits outside of the nation’s top 130 wideouts. Where Dixon does show a ton of potential is his speed and leaping ability combined with a solid route running tree that will make him reliable at the collegiate level.
