Texas Basketball: Look back at Kerwin Roach Jr.’s career
By Shane Black
Clutch shots
In Roach’s four-years on the Forty Acres he had many memorable games, as well as many memorable shots. When his role started to evolve into a main scorer in his junior and senior seasons, the team often turned to him when they needed a bucket.
Roach had many great late game moments in his career.
His first and only true game-winner came in a late February 2018 game against Oklahoma State in the Frank Erwin Center. The Horns came into the game firmly sitting on the NCAA Tournament bubble with a record of 16-12 (6-9 Big 12).
It was a game Texas basketball needed to win against one of the bottom-feeders of the Big 12.
Roach took Cowboys defender Lindy Waters to the rim and finished an off-handed layup with 1.2 seconds left to seal a huge win for the Horns.
Roach had another clutch moment earlier this season in the teams second game of the season at Fort Bliss against Arkansas. He had a team high 18-points, including this three-pointer to send the game into overtime.
That shot led to a tone-setting 73-71 win in overtime.
Roach was always known as one of the highest flyers in college basketball, but during the latter part of his career he shouldered heavier burdens, and came up very clutch in a few games for Texas.
