Texas Basketball: 5 best remaining 2019 transfer prospects
A report from Corey Evans of Rivals mentions that Texas basketball is a potential suitor to watch to land rising sophomore former Kansas shooting guard Quentin Grimes out of the transfer portal this summer. Smart and the Longhorns could be a great landing spot for Grimes if he intends to stay in the Big 12.
Yet, there were few freshman former five-star 2018 signees that were more disappointing last season in college basketball than Grimes. He registered a measly 8.7 player efficiency rating to go along with 8.4 points per game, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists.
The disappointing production from Grimes didn’t stop Kansas from starting him in all 36 games that he played in as a true freshman. Yet, that also didn’t stop Grimes from declaring early for the 2019 NBA Draft and then deciding to return to college for his sophomore season at least. After declaring that he would ultimately return to school for at least one more year, Grimes promptly put his name in the transfer portal.
Given the lack of success that Grimes found last season, the move to the transfer portal was a pretty good one for him. Coming out of College Park High School in The Woodlands, TX, Grimes was heralded as a top 10 2018 high school prospect in the nation and a top two combo guard. He also held the title as the top ranked prospect out of the state of Texas.
Will he land with the Longhorns? Texas was one of the 12 programs that offered him out of College Park.
