2. Impact of Elite 11/Opening Finals

The fun part about the Elite 11/Opening Finals in the midst of the summer months of the college football offseason is how much prospective recruits care about their performance. There is a national spotlight on the Opening Finals, and rightly so. Rarely do fans get to see how the top high school prospects in the nation square off before their senior seasons.

Texas football had numerous commits and top prospects present at the Elite 11 and Opening Finals. Card is a premier commit to watch, but so are some of his teammates in the 7-on-7 tournament. Wilson is going to get a ton of attention, and he’ll be catching passes from the Texas commit Card.

However, national recruiting rankings shifts already transpired with the quarterbacks and will continue to happen throughout the Opening Finals until July 3. Although Card deserved a boost in his recruiting ranking, he didn’t get it yet.

Four-star defensive back Xavion Alford and four-star defensive tackle Vernon Broughton were two key Texas targets that stood out at the Opening Finals through the workouts. They also have Texas among their finalist schools and need to keep in a constant line of communication to boost this class on the defensive side of the ball.
