A very highly touted in-state prospect that never officially received an offer from the Texas football program, but did have scout looks, is the former Texas Tech Red Raiders cornerback Jaylon Lane. As a native of Nacogdoches, TX, Lane had attention from the Longhorns as a three-star cornerback recruit coming out of Nacogdoches High School.

During the past two seasons with Texas Tech, Lane didn’t play a huge role in the ups and downs with that defense. Texas Tech did have a much better defense in the final two years under former head coach Kliff Kingsbury, but Lane didn’t help that at all. He only played in seven games altogether with the Red Raiders over the course of two seasons.

In his junior season, Lane racked up 27 total tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and 2 pass deflections. Playing time wasn’t a factor for Lane in his senior season. He ultimately took a redshirt year and could be coming back for his fifth season of college football.

The interest from Texas in Lane dropped off when he was coming out of ICC as a three-star JUCO cornerback recruit. The notable schools on his offer sheet coming out of ICC for Lane included the Oregon State Beavers, Arkansas State Red Wolves, Southern Miss Golden Gears, UCLA Bruins, and Texas Tech.
