Texas Football: 10 biggest August Longhorns recruiting storylines
9. What’s next at running back?
The 2020 Texas football recruiting class has a sole commitment in place through the start of the month of August, with three-star Mansfield Timberview product Jaden Hullaby. But the 2021 recruiting class is still seeking out its first commitment at the position despite success recruiting at the other skill positions.
However, Texas could be in line for a big upgrade at running back soon that could make an impact for a long time with Bijan Robinson set to announce his commitment decision in the next few days. Four-star all-purpose running back EJ Smith is another quality target to potentially add to the 2020 recruiting class.
Texas seemingly already lost out in the race to land elite five-star Houston, TX, running back Zachary Evans when they seemed like the favorites entering the offseason. Other five-star running back targets like Kendall Milton and Jase McClellan are committed else where, with the Georgia Bulldgos and Oklahoma Sooners respectively.
Adding depth to the running back position is key for this offense of the Longhorns to function at a high level. Keeping the balance hanging around takes a lot of the pressure off the quarterback and opens things up for the rest of the skill position weapons.
