Big 12 Football: 5 best current candidates for conference expansion
2. Boise State Broncos
Current Conference: Mountain West
Location: Boise, ID
If the Boise State Broncos were to hop out of the Mountain West, the ideal move for them would be joining the PAC-12. Boise State would be a natural fit as a solid football power in the northwestern part of the United State within the PAC-12 North.
But it doesn’t look as if the PAC-12 would make the move to add in the Broncos anytime soon. The Big 12 could jump in and take advantage of the extreme marketability and notoriety that Boise State brings to the table.
And once again, Boise State would help the Big 12 make a seamless split between north and south divisions. Boise is also the biggest television market by far in the state of Idaho. There are a lot of appealing points about snagging Boise State out of the Mountain West and annexing them into the Big 12. A renewed rivalry with TCU from when both schools were in the Mountain West could be fun too.
The aforementioned recruiting pipeline that the Big 12 could establish in a place that it doesn’t have currently could also be sustained by adding Boise State into the conference. California, Oregon, and Washington do have depth and talent at the high school and JUCO ranks. Big 12 schools would love to have that recruiting pipeline included.
