1. Kansas Jayhawks

Maybe the program in the Big 12 that will most often take graduate transfers out of the portal for the next year or two is the Kansas Jayhawks, now under the direction of the former LSU Tigers head coach Les Miles. Kansas and the in-state rival Kansas State Wildcats could both fit into that bit in 2020 at least.

Kansas did make some strides in the first year under Miles’ direction, but there is still a long way to go. That ESPN+ documentary that followed the Jayhawks football program around last season called ‘Miles To Go’ definitely put the right spin on the current state of the team. The win in Big 12 play over Texas Tech did prove that Kansas can win against at least decent teams in this conference.

However, if Wilbon wants to stick around the Big 12 and truly land in a situation where he can make an immediate impact as a starter, Lawrence could be the right place for him. Kansas loses their starting nose tackle, senior Jelani Brown, since his eligibility ran out following the 2019 season. And the backup doesn’t have much playing time under his belt.

Picking out of the transfer portal is a process that the Jayhawks might have to rely on for another couple years as Miles tries to rebuild this program that’s been down for so many seasons. And the fact that Kansas hasn’t landed a four-star defensive lineman out of high school in more than a half decade makes it more imperative to land transfers with starting experience like Wilbon.
