Sophomore Shooting Guard | Wichita State

The only name on this list for the Texas basketball program that was a previous scouting target during his recruitment out of high school is the former three-star recruit and Wichita State Shockers to-be sophomore shooting guard Grant Sherfield. The Wichita, KS, native and Sunrise Christian product held the lucky 13 offers coming out of high school.

Texas was one of the 13 schools to offer the nation’s No. 164 ranked 2019 high school prospect and the No. 25 combo guard. This 6-foot-3 guard did have some impressive other programs on his offer sheet including the Kansas Jayhawks, Baylor Bears, UCLA Bruins, Illinois Fighting Illini, LSU Tigers, Oklahoma Sooners, Oklahoma State Cowboys, and TCU Horned Frogs.

Sherfield wound up somewhat surprisingly choosing to take his talents to Wichita State over numerous offers from Big Ten, Big 12, and SEC programs. It seems like he is realizing that he might have made a mistake with his commitment decision as he put his name in the transfer portal entering the 2020 offseason.

This is also the only long-term project on this list that the Longhorns could pursue. While Sherfield might not get immediate eligibility, Texas could still shore up the depth in their backcourt rotation and have a good long-term guard piece that could play for two or three more years on the Forty Acres.

Last season, Shefield averaged 8.1 points per game, 3.0 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 0.8 steals, while shooting 35.3 percent from the field, 30.4 percent from beyond the arc, and 74.4 percent from the charity stripe.
