Texas Football: 4 biggest early 5-Star 2022 targets
A position that the Longhorns surprisingly didn’t do too well on in the last two signing classes was wide receiver. Once Texas saw the former 2020 commit and four-star Temple wideout Quentin Johnston flip to TCU ahead of the Early Signing Period last year, that class was hit really hard. The highest rated signee at wideout in the Longhorns 2020 class was four-star Troy Omeire.
And Texas has yet to even land a four-star wide receiver in their 2021 class. Part of this problem could be due to all the coaching staff turnover Texas had among the receiver coaches since the outset of this offseason. Texas parted ways with both Drew Mehringer and Corby Meekins actually since the conclusion of the 2019 regular season.
However, recently promoted wide receivers coach Andre Coleman and Herman should be all over what the uber-talented five-star Del Valle wide receiver Caleb Burton brings to the table. This 6-foot and 165 pound ultra speedy and agile wideout and Texas native Burton is another one that the Longhorns appear to be high on the list of at this point in time.
Burton holds offers from more than 35 schools as of July 22. The highlighting schools on his offer sheet includes the Stanford Cardinal, Oklahoma, Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, LSU, and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He ranks as the nation’s No. 11 2022 high school prospect, top overall wide receiver, and No. 3 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). The Top247 rankings slot him as a top 10 high school prospect in the nation.
