1) Can’t miss 2021 Texas basketball recruiting targets: Daimion Collins, PF

About the most coveted remaining uncommitted prospect that the Longhorns could go after for their 2021 class at this point in time is the ultra-talented five-star Atlanta big man Daimion Collins. Most of the recruiting profiles for Collins do classify him as a power forward, but the Texas native could play at the four or the five.

An emerging problem that could be looming for Texas in terms of pursuing the commitment of Collins is the fact that their primary coach in contact with him appeared to be Jai Lucas. Now on staff with head coach John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats, Lucas left the Longhorns program recently this offseason. Texas replaced him with former SMU Mustangs assistant KT Turner.

Kentucky is also one of the programs in the running to land the commitment of Collins. Texas and Kentucky are two of the 15 schools on his offer as of the afternoon of Sep. 7. The other highlighting schools after him includes the Alabama Crimson Tide, Texas Tech Red Raiders, Georgia Bulldogs, Kansas Jayhawks, Oklahoma State Cowboys, USC Trojans, Texas A&M Aggies, Oklahoma, SMU, Houston, and Arkansas.

The 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions do have Texas getting a slight edge over Oklahoma and the rest of the competition to get the pledge of Collins. But the Rivals FutureCast does have two of their analysts and publishers picking Collins to commit to Oklahoma, along with one each going to Texas and Texas Tech.

Collins ranks as the nation’s No. 20 2021 high school prospect, No. 6 power forward, and No. 2 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). This is about the most realistic five-star prospect the Longhorns could get in their 2021 class at this point.
