1) Predicting next commit in 2021 Texas basketball recruiting class: Daimion Collins

About the most highly touted and prioritized that a hoops recruiting target is going to get for the Longhorns for the remainder of the 2021 cycle is with the elite five-star Atlanta (TX) power forward/center Daimion Collins. This Texas native has a very realistic shot of landing with Smart and the Longhorns, but they can’t get lazy with his recruitment.

A real opportunity exists for Smart and the Longhorns here to establish and elite pipeline of recruiting talent at the power forward/center position. Go back to the 2019 signing class; the Longhorns landed five-star hometown center Will Baker. In 2018, they got the underrated four-star power forward/center Jaxson Hayes signed. And in the 2020 recruiting class, the lone signee was five-star Vandegrift power forward Greg Brown.

Imagine if the Longhorns could get a string of power forwards in two consecutive years with Brown and Collins. That would give Texas two top 20 ranked high school prospects in the nation that they landed in two straight recruiting classes. Collins ranks as the nation’s No. 19 2021 high school prospect, No. 5 power forward, and No. 2 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite).

Texas does have to watch out for other schools in the region trying to get interest from Collins away from their program. The Oklahoma Sooners, Arkansas Razorbacks, and Kentucky Wildcats, among other programs, can gain ground fast (and some have already) in pursuit of Collins’ commitment in the near future.
