1) Texas football recruiting targets to replace Bowman Jr.: LJ Johnson

About the most prominent recruiting target remaining among the uncommitted prospects in the 2021 class is the elite four-star Cy-Fair running back LJ Johnson. This uber-talented 5-foot-10 and 205 pound product hailing out of Cypress, TX, does still have a few programs left in the running to land his commitment it seems.

It was coming down to for Texas for a while both Johnson and the fellow elite five-star Lakeview Centennial running back Camar Wheaton as to who they should prioritize. But it looks like Johnson has now won that battle. And we could very well see the likes of Johnson landing with the Longhorns, and Wheaton landing with head coach Lincoln Riley and the Sooners.

Johnson ranks as the nation’s No. 42 2021 high school prospect, No. 4 running back, and No. 7 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 31 high school prospect, No. 3 running back, and No. 4 prospect out of Texas. He currently holds offers from a whopping 40 schools.

And the highlighting schools on his offer sheet includes the Alabama Crimson Tide, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, LSU, Auburn Tigers, Baylor Bears, Florida Gators, Florida State, Georgia, Miami Hurricanes, Michigan Wolverines, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Penn State Nittany Lions, Stanford Cardinal, Tennessee Volunteers, TCU, USC Trojans, and UCLA Bruins. He’s got a ton of blue bloods going after him right now.

The lone running back commit in the Longhorns 2021 class right now is three-star Hallettsville product Jonathon Brooks. Adding Johnson to the mix would help Texas fans somewhat forget about the loss of the commitment of Bowman Jr.
